The aim of this series was to capture different design elements through each study. The first piece was to convey depth through the weight of the line: heavier lines indicted closer proximity to the viewer. The second was to communicate value through shades ranging from white to black. The third piece expressed value in a different manner by removing all grey values and only leaving the darkest darks and the lightest lights. The last piece is an abstraction of my floral arrangement. Pre-existing lines within the arrangement were extended and areas of shadows were shaded in. Certain lines were also strategically darkened and thickened in order to “mimic” and “trace” the course the eye takes when viewing the arrangement. Though the floral arrangement has been reduced to its purest and simplest form, the eye actually reads it quite similarly to its original form.
